Applications are invited for appointment as full-time Counsellor (SEN Support) in the Counselling and Person Enrichment Section of the Centre of Development and Resources for Students (CEDARS) (Ref.:526252), to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis.

 

Applicants should possess a good Bachelor or Master’s degree in Social Work, Counselling Psychology, Occupational Therapy, or a related discipline with at least 5 years’ relevant post-degree experience. Knowledge on equal opportunity ordinance, university policies and best practices, as well as relevant work experiences in mental health and disability/ special educational needs (SEN) support for adolescent or young adults are essential. Fluency in English and Cantonese is a must while proficiency in Putonghua is an advantage. Applicants should be eligible for membership of the relevant professional bodies.

 

The appointee will be responsible for case management, conducting needs assessment, providing counselling and support sessions, delivering skills training, and conducting individual and group interventions for students with SEN. Appointee will be responsible for devising individualized support plan to assist the students in their learning, campus engagement, and employment preparation. Consultation and liaison with course teachers or other administrative staff will also be part of the appointee’s major work duty. Moreover, the appointee will offer advice and training to strengthen capacity of the university community in supporting students with SEN and play an important role in the university’s counselling service enhancement.

 

To ensure professional development, regular supervision and opportunities on professional training will be provided. The appointee will work closely with the professional team in the Counselling and Person Enrichment Section of CEDARS, and other experts in student support, faculties and related units at HKU.  

 

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment on fixed term will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary.
